My Gentle Protector & playing with mohair

There is nothing better than knitting with a strand of lace weight mohair combined with another yarn. The resulting fabric is just dreamy. In this case, one strand of sport weight Juniper Moon Patagonia Organic Merino and one strand of Kidsilk Haze (or Lang Mohair Luxe, a nearly identical yarn) are just lovely together.

Liz found My Gentle Protector, a simple and free hat pattern, on Ravelry. The band is knit for 2 1/2", then joined into the round for the rest of the hat. No purling required! A couple of accent buttons are sewn on, so you don't even need to know how to make buttonholes! We used these fun buttons from Kaffe Fassett for a pop of color.

Hanging with My Gentle Protector in the shop, you will find a swatch with several other colors of lace weight mohair so you can see what a difference changing one color can make. Our base yarn, Patagonia Organic Merino in Smoke (a charcoal gray), remains the same throughout. See Tin Can Knits' blog post on layering mohair over a base yarn for more info about this technique, and imagine the fun you can have!
